Lighting control based on presence and daylight compensation saves a lot of energy. With wireless, non battery switches and web-based configuration, it's easy to shift, change and supplement the lights as needed when needed.

Since 2003 we've had solutions for real estate lighting control. The solutions have consisted of presence control of luminaires via relay boxes. This type of regulation is energy efficient and simple. Real estate development is moving towards solutions that allow rule based adapted lighting environment. In order for propties to be certified according to different standards, the lighting is often required to be dimmable and daylight compensated. To meet these requirements, Lindinvent has developed a lighting control unit called SBD which is compatible with DALI luminaires.

DALI stands for "Digital Addressable Lighting Interface" and is a technical standard for network-based systems that control lighting in buildings. DALI is the most common lighting system for lighting today. In a DALI system, actuators and control units are connected via a two-wire bus. Actors consist of different luminaires. Control units can be push buttons, light sensors and presence sensors.

The communication between the devices is digital via the bus conductors and consists of a set of commands for controlling the luminaires centrally. On a DALI bus, you can connect 64 units each assigned a unique address. In a DALI system, the luminaires can be controlled both centrally and individually directly from a control unit or from a master unit.

Lindinvent's control unit, SBD, can, in addition to controlling luminaires, also read DALI controllers such as light sensors, presence sensors and I / O units. SBD acts as a DALI master, where communication between several control units and the parent server takes place via a CAN network. This means that SBD can interact with Lindinvent's other products and systems. Information from the presence sensor in the diffusers can still be used to control the lighting.

In Lindinvent's solution for DALI, all commands are sent from SBD. Push buttons, light sensors and presence detectors are passive only and are read by the SBD via the DALI bus.

Fully addressed Dali: Lighting is individually controlled

If all luminaires can be individually controlled independently of each other, they need to be assigned a unique address. On the DALI bus, each individual unit is assigned a unique static address between 0 and 63, which means that up to 64 units can be connected to a single DALI loop. In Lindinvent's CAN network, these addresses will be translated into so-called node numbers, which means that the luminaires can be identified and visualized in the parent system.

The luminaires can be set to belong to different groups. When you then control the specific group, you control all luminaires that are part of the same group. A maximum of 16 groups can be managed by a DALI bus.

The actuators can also store different modes in an internal memory, which is called scenes. The memory for scenes is used to set different dimmer levels or to turn off all lighting via a push-button. A maximum of 16 scenes can be managed by a DALI bus.

Broadcast Dali: All lights are controlled via a common command

If all luminaires that are connected to a DALI bus always have to take the same dimmer level, the broadcast function can be used / selected for the current Dali loop. This means that the individual luminaires need not be given individual addresses. Since DALI Broadcast sends out the same command to all slaves, no addressing of luminaires is required during installation. This also means that the luminaires do not need to be redirected during luminaire replacement. The same command will go out independently to each device connected to the master unit.

Larger surfaces, with multiple luminaires to be jointly controlled, need not be fully addressable to each illumination node. To save configuration time and thereby keep the installation cost down, these spaces can be solved via a broadcast solution. In this case, the SBD sends out messages to all luminaires located on a specific Dali loop, which then act in common.

A broadcast solution for a surface can be reconfigured into a fully addressed loop without physical intervention. However, a division of the surface into smaller lighting zones requires configuration time both in terms of setting the node ID and for any visualization in LINDINSPECT.
